"The burning monk Had a name" - Thich Quang Duc

In 1963, he sat on a street in Saigon in Vietnam in the meditative position. He poured petrol over his body and started the fire. He maintained a calm and meditative while his body burned, and then he simply tipped back.

His death was dramatic, but not quite different in nature and spirit of the deaths of many other Buddhist leaders and saints.

A notable difference, however, is that his death was shown on several different TVs in the world.

Whether you agreed with his actions or not, Thich Quang Duc wanted to show what human beings are capable of when it follows that consciousness.
